How to Select a Drum Reeling Cable
July 2026
A practical overview of the operating conditions to review before selecting a cable for winding and reeling equipment.
Start with the movement
Define the reel type, travel distance, winding speed, acceleration and expected number of operating cycles. These conditions influence conductor construction, reinforcement and the overall cable design.
Review the installation environment
Consider tension, torsion, abrasion, oil, outdoor UV, water exposure and ambient temperature. The sheath material and cable construction should be matched to the actual working environment.
Confirm the electrical requirements
Core count, conductor size, rated voltage, signal requirements and shielding should be confirmed before a final cable structure is selected.
Editorial note: Final product selection should be confirmed using the actual electrical, mechanical and environmental requirements of the application.
