Application
Floating and Underwater Cable Selection
July 2026
Important questions to consider for cable systems used around water, floating equipment and submerged machinery.
Define how the cable will be used
A floating cable, a permanently submerged cable and a moving underwater cable may require different constructions. Water depth, movement and installation method should be confirmed.
Consider visibility and buoyancy
For floating applications, buoyancy behavior, jacket color and the position of the cable in the water are important design considerations.
Check sealing and mechanical loads
The cable and its terminations should be evaluated as a complete system, including tensile load, bending, abrasion and water ingress protection.
Editorial note: Final product selection should be confirmed using the actual electrical, mechanical and environmental requirements of the application.
